But when I use poorly designed software, painfully slow apps, or frustrating forms, I turn into a monstrous beast. Authenticate AGAIN? I can’t find ANYTHING. This takes ZILLION clicks. Nothing makes SENSE! I’m WASTING time! ANOTHER ERROR! AARRRRRGGGHH! My blood pressure rises while I yell words that would deeply embarrass my mother. I have given in to interface rage. And I am far from alone. Users today are often massively frustrated by the sites, apps, and software we make. They are furious when they can’t quickly do what they want. And this fury has consequences. Angry users rush through tasks, make more mistakes, and miss obvious things. This makes them more upset and less able to use our products. Yes, they blame us. So what can we do? How do we make products that help users calmly, peacefully, and easily accomplish their goals? How do we make sites, apps, and software rage-proof? Deep breaths.
