Online marketplaces are notoriously hard to build, marketplaces in the collaborative or sharing economy perhaps doubly so. They struggle with chicken and egg challenges, introducing new behaviour and monitization issues. But done right they can grow exponentially, change the world and generate billions of dollars. Successful marketplaces like AirBNB and Uber are taking over the world. Daan Weddepohl is the founder of Peerby, a collaborative economy startup that enables people to rent and borrow household items from others nearby. Many went before him and failed. And certainly building Peerby wasn't without struggle and still isn't. Daan talks about the lessons he learned along the way, how they might apply to other marketplaces and how they impacted his view on the meaning of sharing.
