As humans we all own data and therefor we should understand the value, function and purpose of (our) data. By opening the black box of data we can help people to think outside of the box. Until now the internet is built based on monetizing audiences and commoditize us people like Facebook and Google are doing to make money opposed to the beautiful sharing space for knowledge. The expense and ethics of AI are currently holding us back. To move forward we need to strike a balance, and inject HUMANITY into the machines we’re developing. In the near future we will have our own bot, our own little agent, our own style advisor and own avatar to negotiate on our behalf, a sort digital ambassador / intermediair We’re not suffering from a lack of technology, we’re suffering from a lack of IMAGINATION of what to do with it. The future of fashion is about REAL IMAGINATION, how to use technique and innovation for the better which goes beyond using AI to predict what you are going to buy based on the two key-elements of an algorithm (historical data and definition of success). Try to imagine what you can do with your personal style bot, which uses your personal historical data and your definition of success. Don’t even start talking about complexity, black boxes or secret sauces. If it is my personal data, I should and will have the right to see it and understand it. If brands are using my personal data to recommend on, don’t shut me out but tell me the logic behind it so I can give feedback on the output of the algorithms, to improve/fix the recommendation proces. It’s a win-win. As an user you should even delete your historical browse and buying behavior. Then you CAN influence the algorithm and control the outcome because you will understand how it works. You are in the center of your own data, algorithms and recommendations and control your personal style identity. Which is a portable profile you can use like your personal style ID. It learns from each click, like, buy, return and is in your hands. Next time you go shopping, you will feel you are in control of your data and learn about yourself and your taste. The better you know yourself, your true /real you, the more time there is left for other (more) important things in life. I personally think children should learn more about their personal taste and why they like what they like. It all starts with asking the right questions and learning them to describe how they FEEL about something. Imagination as everything to do with feelings and emotions.
