The Culture Map - Diego Garcia Lozano - NDC Oslo 2022
About this talk
We live in a globalized and highly interconnected world. Many countries have been rapidly turning into multicultural societies. Where once we were expected to work primarily with colleagues from our same cultural background, today many people work in teams with people from all over the world. After the pandemic, the increased adoption of remote work has further accelerated this trend. 💻🦠 However, even those who are culturally informed, travel extensively, and have lived abroad often struggle with the cross-cultural complexity that affects their daily interactions. If I am arriving 7 minutes late to a meeting in France, should I let them know? ⏱ And what if the meeting was in Norway? Why are my Latin American colleagues using so much time in personal talk before asking for something at work instead of getting straight to the point? 😩 My American manager gave me three positive feedback before telling me a negative one that she didn’t even make it sound so terrible… that has to be something good, right? 😰 As an Argentinian living and working for years on the other side of the world, often in teams with people from very different backgrounds, I know the answers to these questions aren't always easy. That's why In this session I want to share an incredible finding I recently came across: an analytical framework for decoding how these cultural differences impact our work environment called “The Culture Map”, conceived by international business professor Erin Meyer, and what things we can do to become better colleagues in this multicultural world 🌍 Check out more of our featured speakers and talks at https://ndcconferences.com/ https://ndcoslo.com/
