We define creativity as “the tendency to generate or recognise ideas, alternatives, or possibilities that may be useful in solving problems, communicating with others, and entertaining ourselves and others”. The ability to be creative is one of the best gifts we have as a species, and technology boosts that ability with the myriad of tools available to us. Unfortunately, the pressures of everyday life, the bombardment of social media, and the influx of AI generated advertisement, do a magnificent job at squashing our ability to be creative and realise our potential. In this talk I want to talk about why creativity is important and how we can push back against everything that tries to stifle our ability to create. In this talk I will touch on: - What is creativity and why is it important? - Why social media is affecting our ability to create and innovate. - The permanence of art , and why technology can be a hindrance, and not a help. - Recognising what you want your legacy to the world to be. - Productivity techniques to enable creativity and why they go against the grain of traditional productivity techniques. - Creating a home/work environment that is conducive to being creative.
