Visful thinking: Towards a Visual Reasoning Framework for Communicating with Data "The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place." George Bernard Shaw's apprehension easily applies when visualizations are used as a data communication tool. In this talk we introduce a visual reasoning framework to bridge the gap between what we show and tell and how we reason with visual information, derived through an in-depth qualitative analysis of more than 2000 visualizations collected from publications in multiple science domains (e.g., energy, climate science, and healthcare). ----- 🎤About Outlier🎤 Outlier is a one-of-a-kind data visualization conference hosted by the Data Visualization Society.
